Module 10

 1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
  The first video i chose was Chinese Art. The reason i chose this video is because of how old the Chinese culture is. Dating back to 10,000 B.C i thought the long lengthy history would provide many examples of different types of art. The second video i chose was Islamic art  Africa and central Asia. I chose this video because of its geographic location. The location of  African and Asia allow for so much influence form not only Islamic cultures but how they were molded by other cultures.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
For the Islamic art  Africa and central Asia the key concept i learned was how the Gothic age found in Europe received most of its ideas from Islam. The use of the perfect pointed arches and the the many columns are just some examples.
In the Chinese art video the key concept i found was how creative and unique Chinese porcelain and the use of layering.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
From the readings in the text this showed the history and how the ideas originated. The videos showed more specific examples of each cultures art. They provided examples of different artists and they're works.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts? The films opened my mind to different cultures creation of art. I am used to learning about art  from western Europe and the United States. Seeing different cultures expression of they're way of life and belief system was interesting.
