1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose
The Greek Awakening: Art from the 5th Century BC because i have always been fascinated with the Greek culture from Art, politics, and just the general history. Its fascinating how many ideas that were created an used back then apply to today hundreds of years later. After watching the video i see even the basic concepts of art and design are studied to modern day.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
In the more than human video the main concept i learned was how the human and animal stimulus effect's how people create and perceive things. The seagull example for the baby seagulls being mentally attracted to the red line on their mothers beak was very interesting. Also how humans in the nomadic age thought the same way when they created the Venus De Milo.
For the Greek awakening video one key concept i discover was how Pericles transformed the city of Athens form mostly wood structures to all Marble rock with his greatest achievement being the Parthenon.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The More Human than Human video related to the text by showing the evolution of art. It showed how the creation of the human form came from basic exaggerated form of the human figure to very accurate depictions of what the human body is like. Much like the texts showing the artwork from the Neolithic age all the way to the time of the Roman empire.
In the Greek awakening video it was a more of in depth look and showed examples of what the reading briefly went over. The book giving a definition of the Classical Greek period and the Hellenistic age but the video going into a more in depth description of what went on.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts? As a history buff i found the videos very interesting and informing. They were a different perspective on how Ive viewed the ancient world. Its one thing to just read the reading the video add a visual perspective to the words and definitions being discussed.
