Blog Reflection

1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met?
My expectations were to learn about art. Yes they were met i learned about all different kinds of art, such as sculptures, Architecture, different art from around the world and the history involved.

2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your intial posting?
On my initial posting i said, "art is anything someone creates to say how they feel without saying it". Is till think it is about how they feel, but i also think it is about how they observe and how they try and tell a story, for example the hundred year old cave drawings.

3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?
My favorite artist i the original posting was Picasso and now it still is Picasso. In my initial post i picked Picasso because he was just an artist i had heard of. Now that Ive actually seen and done research on him i have a greater appreciation for his works.

4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?
This not being my first online course  at times it was overwhelming with the amount of blogs, but due able and glad i took it online.

Art Gallery 3

1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces?
I selected this self portrait of Vincent van Gogh because multiple colors in his face and the lines that showed movement in the background. I selected  Pablo Picasso's self portrait because i liked his pose, and it seemed to go with his monochromatic theme. I chose Claude Monet because his self portrait was very realistic and he showed lots of texture in his beard.

2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait?
I chose colored pencils because it was easy and less intimidating than paint.

3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?

I had troubles starting because i wanted to draw it perfectly to my photo but i lacked the skill . I overcame it by just doing the best i could.

4. How does this piece represent you?
It represents me because its not very fancy and has colors that i like.

5. What elements and principles of art did you apply in this work?

I used texture for my mustache and beard. I used harmonious colors. I also used rhythm in my pencil strokes.

I enjoyed it more than i thought i would.
7. What do you think of your final artwork?

Project 4 Jurowicz

I enjoyed the unique self portraits of famous artist. A self portrait is different than a regular portrait since i think the artist expresses and explores they're inner turmoil. In either case a bit of they're personality and struggles comes out on the canvas. For example Van Gogh's piercing eyes portrayed his mental illness. Also the choice of color depicts the artists mood and emotional state.
